Immediately following the Armistice with Germany, signed November 11, 1918, the British send an Educational Mission to the United  States to encourage closer cooperation between British and American institutions and to promote British universities as an alternative to their German counterparts. Rice is the only institution west of the Mississippi visted by the Mission.
