In November, President Jimmy Carter honors Professor Emeritus Frederick Rossini with the National Medal of Science for his "contributions to basic reference knowledge in chemical thermodynamics." An authority on petroleum chemistry, Rossini taught at Carnegie-Mellon and Notre Dame before joining Rice faculty from 1971-1975. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences, past presdient of the London-based World Petroleum Congress, and holder of the Carl Engler Medal (Germany, 1975).
