John Freeman, Rice professor emeritus and research professor of physics and astronomy, and his colleague H. Kent Hills detect evidence of water vapor ions on the moon and make Time Magazine. Read about their discovery here.

Rice University experiments carried to the Moon on Apollo 12, 14 and 15 missions provide data on the lunar ionosphere and atmosphere and continue to operate and return data by radio for many months after astronauts return home. One Rice instrument carries a small blue and gray Rice pennant.
