[December 9]

On December 9 Rice dedicates the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, named for Rice alumnus and trustee M. Kenneth Oshman ’62 and his wife Barbara, and funded by a generous gift from the couple. The facility enables undergraduate engineers to collaborate on projects just as they will in industrial settings. The design experience allows students to integrate knowledge of engineering fundamentals with hands-on practice and is part of Rice's forward-thinking model for educating and training engineering leaders at a time when it is widely acknowledged that the United States is experiencing an engineering shortage.
