Riki Kobayashi '44 returns to Rice as an assistant professor of chemical engineering. In 1967 he is named the Louis Calder Professor of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Kobayashi is among the most prolific researchers in thermodynamic and transport properties. His research pioneers the measurement of hydrocarbon vapor-water-gas hydrate equilibrium, the use of gas chromatography to measure vapor-liquid and vapor-solid equilibria, phase transitions and molecular diffusivity and the use of laser light scatter to measure properties in the critical region.
