To celebrate Earth Day and demonstrate the environmental benefits of nanoscience, over 70 CNST students and faculty construct the largest chemistry model ever -- and enter the Guinness Book of World Records. At 1,181 feet long and 1 foot wide, the model of a carbon nanotube is as long as Houston’s tallest skyscraper -- so long that it spills across the campus’s main thoroughfare and forces a traffic detour. The Houston Museum of Natural Science later displays a 400-foot portion of the model.
