Rice dedicates Duncan College as its 11th residential college. Named for Anne and Charles '47 Duncan, who provide $30 million to support the university's residential college system, the building features motion detectors that shut off lights in unoccupied rooms and a system to retain rainwater for irrigation. Duncan College is the 1st building at Rice and among the 1st in Houston to receive gold LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council -- a particularly fitting honor because the Duncans have long supported environmental conservation.

Rice also remodels and expands Baker College and Will Rice College to bring all residential colleges up to date.
