[April 26]
2008

Rice dedicates the Raymond and Susan Brochstein Pavilion on April 26. The Pavilion's quality, glass exterior and light scoops reflect the signature style of architect Thomas Phifer & Partners. Although one of the smallest buildings on campus at 6,000 square feet, the Brochstein Pavilion and its landscaping designed by James Burnett, landscape architect, redefine the center of campus and encourage more connections between Rice and Houston, between Rice and the Texas Medical Center and among Rice students, faculty and staff.

The Brochstein Pavilion wins a Best of 2008 Award from Texas Construction Magazine; a 2009 Merit Award from the Texas Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects; a 2010 Institute Honor Award for Architecture from the American Institute of Architects; and a 2010 Honor Award from the National American Society of Landscape Artists.

Former trustee Raymond Brochstein '55 and his wife Susan fund the building. Mr. Brochstein, former chair of Rice's Art Committee and a member of the board's Building and Grounds Committee, has long sponsored projects that beautify Rice's campus.
