Architects Cesar Pelli and Associates design Robert R. Herring Hall to house the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Administration. Named for a former chairman of the Rice Board of Trustees, the building is remodeled to serve departments in the School of Humanities after the Jones School moves to McNair Hall in 2002.

To commemorate their participation in the Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations held at Rice in 1990, participating countries place stone blocks in the courtyard.
